Akihabara Massacre Tribute by Zerogouki Akihabara Massacre Tribute by Zerogouki
I lived in Japan from 2008 to 2009, and on June 8, 2008 I woke up early and said to myself that I just didn't quite feel up to going to Akihabara like I usually do. I was still tired, I had a bit of a headache, and I was in a bad mood.

Later that afternoon a few folks contacted me to make sure I was okay. I wasn't sure why, so they told me. Someone had gone on a stabbing spree in Akiba, after plowing a truck into the Sunday crowds. See, on Sundays for the longest time, they closed traffic for most of the day so people could just walk the streets, making shopping a lot easier without cars and stuff to worry about.

For a lot of people it was one of those eye-openers. It was like... holy crap. Stuff like this can still happen?

I know I'm a few days off from the anniversary, but I just got highspeed internet back, so this is the earliest I could put it up. The picture is one of the two memorials that we set up on the street corners where it happened. People would stop by and put flowers and drink bottles and sometimes plushies and toy figures there. They stayed up for quite a while.

I still don't think they've re-opened the streets to pedestrians. Maybe they never will.
